What Is SAfA

And What Does It Stand for

Our mission is to unlock the potential of Africa’s youth by

  • Equipping young people with market-relevant skills and entrepreneurial know-how that lead to meaningful employment, self-employment, and long-term career growth.
  • Engaging youth in strengthening agricultural value chains by improving productivity, expanding market access, and creating viable agribusiness opportunities.
  • Enabling young people to access quality health services, including sexual and reproductive health, to safeguard their well-being and capacity to contribute to their communities.
  • Empowering youth to lead community-driven, sustainable initiatives that strengthen local resilience, improve livelihoods, and foster inclusive economic growth.

We are committed to breaking down gender barriers that limit young women’s potential and to addressing environmental challenges that undermine rural livelihoods, ensuring that all youth have equal opportunities to thrive. SAfA’s work is not about temporary fixes or conventional aid models. It is about creating long-term, systemic change by combining resources and expertise, and fostering local partnerships to tackle the root causes of poverty. The focus is on building the capacity of young people, empowering  them to shape their own futures and contribute to thriving societies.

How We Work

The SAfA Concept

SAfA’s approach is rooted in collaboration and efficiency, ensuring that  solutions are scalable and impactful. The alliance operates across three focus areas – agriculture, logistics education, and health services – currently addressing the needs of over 120,000 young people in Ethiopia and Tanzania.

Our Methodology

  1. Local Ownership:
All projects are co-created in close collaboration with local communities to ensure they are relevant, practical, and built for lasting impact.
  2. Knowledge Sharing:
By pooling expertise from our partner foundations and local stakeholders, we create multi-sector projects that are innovative and effective.
  3. Resource Optimization:
SAfA ensures the greatest possible impact by strategically leveraging shared resources, expertise, and the unique strengths of the community.
  4. Sustainability:
Our initiatives are built to deliver lasting solutions beyond the life of each project, with a focus on local capacity building, youth empowerment and self-reliance.
  5. Focus Areas:
We deliver targeted interventions in agriculture, logistics, and health to drive holistic development.

What Is

SAfA's Vision

At SAfA, we believe in a future where Africa’s youth drive transformation. Our vision is to foster a generation of gender-sensitive young people who are equally equipped with the knowledge, skills, and tools to create thriving, self-reliant communities. By addressing systemic barriers such as unemployment, lack of education, gender disparities and health inequities, SAfAdirectly contrinutes to several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:

  • SDG 1 (No Poverty):
  • Reducing poverty by fostering economic opportunities for youth and ensuring equitable access to resources.
  • SDG 2 (Zero Hunger): Promoting food security through sustainable agricultural practices and improving value chains.
  • SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being):
Expanding access to critical health services, including sexual and reproductive health, to improve overall well-being.
  • SDG 5: (Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls)
  • SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure):
Strengthening infrastructure and supply chains, particularly in agriculture and logistics, to enhance economic productivity.
  • SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production):
Reducing waste and promoting efficient resource use, particularly by minimizing post-harvest losses in agriculture.

Here Africa’s youth can thrive as architects of their own success, breaking barriers, advancing equality, and building resilient communities.

We are paving the way for a future where Africa’s youth lead progress, strengthen communities, and drive lasting change.

What Makes

SAfA Unique

We focus on holistic, collaborative development:
  • Synergy Through Partnership:
By combining the strengths of multiple foundations, SAfA achieves far greater impact than any single organization could on its own.
  • Shared Responsibility:
All partners contribute equally to decision-making, ensuring a collaborative and inclusive approach.
  • Efficiency and Transparency:
Resources are pooled and allocated strategically to maximize outcomes.
  • Joint Forces:
SAfA fosters an environment of mutual respect and shared goals, where every partner feels valued and inspired.

SAfA’s work is more than just a series of projects – it is an initiative that propels communities toward sustainable, self-driven development. By empowering young people and fostering collaboration, we are building the foundation for a better future across Africa. Together, we can overcome today’s challenges and unlock tomorrow’s potential.
